Dear JKNS, I hope Klinik Kesihatan Merindun can have a Medical Officer soon

This is the story of Klinik Kesihatan (Health Clinics) in the District Lubok Antu (and some rants from me :D).

                                                             KK Merindun (pictured above)

KK Merindun is a clinic in the District Lubok Antu, around 20 minutes away from the Lubok Antu town (Pekan Lubok Antu). Speaking as a MO from KK Batang Ai, I have to say that it is a nice clinic with very helpful, friendly staffs.😃😍 Everytime I cover this clinic (KK Batang Ai medical officer covers KK Merindun on every Wednesday), the staffs treat me like I am a VIP. Compared to KK Batang Ai, which tends to be much busier and more crowded, there are not that many patients per day in KK Merindun. I believe the MO who gets posted to this clinic in the future would be able to enjoy quite a relaxing time here especially in the afternoon.

The only sad thing is that there is no Medical Officer in this clinic at the moment, because everytime a medical officer is posted there, they would appeal to go somewhere else. This clinic ends up without a MO for more than 1 year already. Can JKNS do something about this soon??

I hope there would be a Medical Officer sent to this clinic soon, because on every Wednesday, when one of the KK Batang Ai doctors covers KK Merindun, the lone MO left in KK Batang Ai would be very busy seeing cases in clinic that normally should have been covered by 2 MOs. And we even got complained for being too slow when in fact the number of Dr has been reduced by half haha... 👀 In any clinic in Kuching, you will never hear about their manpower (Dr) being reduced to half every week to cover other clinic, will you? (If this happens, I am sure the patients would have complained to the newspaper that this so-and-so clinic is too slow!! 😜 )

And since there is no medical officer in KK Merindun, medical officer from KK Lubok Antu has to cover KK Merindun during their oncall time (after office hours). This creates burden to MOs in KK Lubok Antu. KK Lubok Antu is the busiest clinic in Lubok Antu with the most number of serious cases during the oncall hours, since Lubok Antu has zero hospital, and the nearest hospital is one and a half hour away...thanks to the slow, unsatisfactory development in central Sarawak. In fact, we have patients with advanced labour/stroke/heart attack/fitting/collapse all coming to mainly KK Lubok Antu (and KK Batang Ai sometimes), because patient has no hospital to turn to. In my hometown, it is almost unheard of that a patient in advanced labour/having heart attack would go to the clinic instead of the hospital, but that is the cruel reality in Lubok Antu. So Medical Officers here have an inside joke that, "If you wanna get sick, please don't get sick in Lubok Antu, because the hospital will be one and a half hour away!"

Not only this, the medical officers of KK Lubok Antu have to cover KK Ng Delok, KK Ng Kesit and KK Ng Stamang during their oncall time. I cannot imagine how my colleagues at KK Lubok Antu deal with so many KKs during their oncall. That is why JKNS need to quickly send a Medical Officer to KKs in District Lubok Antu! Instead of flooding the city with Medical officers who don't even have to do oncall after 9pm, why not save us here by giving us at least a Medical Officer at KK Merindun haha. The rakyat at Merindun deserves better, and doctors at KK Lubok Antu and KK Batang Ai should not be taken for granted and overworked (plus underpaid😏).

Speaking about being overworked and underpaid, during the COVID season, things get ridiculous here too. But I will tell you this ridiculous story about our workload and COVID claim on another day. Stay tune.
